Placement Assessment Exemptions

Students who meet any of criteria for each subject area below are not required to take a skills assessment, and may proceed to register for the English or math courses required for their academic program. Students who are exempt may still elect to take a skills assessment if they are unsure about their preparation for college-level classes.

English Assessment Exemptions

Standardized Test Scores for English

Students who achieve the minimum score on any of the following standardized tests for reading and writing are not required to take an English skills assessment.

SAT, before March 2016, Combined Reading and Writing 500
SAT, March 2016 or later, Evidence-Based Reading and Writing 480

Transfer Credits for English Requirements

Students who transfer an English course from another institution equivalent to ENG 121 are not required to take the English placement assessment.

Math Assessment Exemptions

Students who achieve the minimum score on any of following standardized tests for math are not required to take a math skills assessment.

Students who transfer a math course from another institution equivalent to one of the following courses are not required to take a math skills assessment:
MAT 121, MAT 200, MAT 201 or MAT 205
