Peer Mentoring Program Update!

We’ve Found a Few Good Men and Women…tors!

We’re excited to announce that we will be piloting a Peer Mentoring Program for the 2010/2011 academic year.  Peer Mentors will assist first year students (mentees) in their academic transition into college. Mentors will offer guidance, respond to questions and provide information about campus and community resources to empower mentees to become successful students at Wilmington University.

Meet our Mentors for Fall 2010 semester:

Camara Poindexter

My name is Camara Poindexter and I am a senior majoring in Behavioral Science at Wilmington University. I am a member of the Student Government Association as well as a Student Ambassador. As a mentor at WilmU, I plan on helping to make the new college experience for my mentees fun yet informative and express the importance of education. One word that would describe me is CARING!

Heather Karasek

My name is Heather Karasek and I am a Psychology major at Wilmington University. A few things I love about WilmU are the block-style classes, the small campus, and the small class sizes. I am the co-President of the Student Athletic Advisory Committee and a WilmU softball player. One word that would describe me would be outgoing, and I absolutely love the Pittsburgh Steelers! I can't wait to meet all of you!

Vin Favoroso

My name is Vin Favoroso and I am a senior at WilmU. I am studying to be a middle school social studies teacher.  I’ve been attending WilmU for four years and eventually will pursue my master’s degree here.  I wouldn’t pick any other school!  I love to learn and at the same time help others.  WilmU offers flexible course formats which makes getting your degree less overwhelming and challenging. WilmU takes pride in making students the best they can be.

Jynelli Riddle

My name is Jynnelli Riddle and I am majoring in Criminal Justice here at WilmU. My hobbies are fishing, camping, going to the beach, reading, and motorcycle riding. I am also involved in the Criminal Justice Association. My favorite things about WilmU are the excellent professors and the small classes.

George Corbin, Jr.

I AM  Confident       Optimistic      Reliable      Bold      Inquisitive     Notable

My name is George Corbin, Jr. I have always had a passion for helping people, especially young people. This is one of the reasons why I am an Elementary Education major. I have a strong love for music and sports. Most of my life I have coached and played basketball. I surround myself with positive people who have the same drive and determination for life that I do. I chose Wilmington University for its family atmosphere and classes that can be tailored to every type of student.

Caitlin Fitzpatrick

My name is Caitlin Fitzpatrick and I am a dedicated Psychology major with a Drama minor at WilmU. In addition to taking a full course load at WilmU, I work part-time as a waitress. I love to dance, act, and attend yoga classes. One word that best describes me is bubbly. I can't wait to meet you!

Michelle Sidowski

My name is Michelle Sidowski and I am currently working on my Marketing degree. This major has really taught me how to truly build a relationship in sales, not just in advertising. I love the networking aspect of this field and all the people I have had the opportunity to meet. My background is in management, allowing me to complete an internship at Walt Disney World. In my free time, I enjoy going to the gym, running at the park, scrap-booking, and going to the beach! My experience at Wilmington University has been nothing but exciting, successful and has given me a sense of knowledge I never knew I was capable of achieving!

Mentees:

During the pilot Peer Mentoring Program (2010/2011 academic year), only those students enrolled in FYE 101 are eligible to sign up for a mentor. There will be a limited number of mentee spots, so students wanting to join the Peer Mentoring Program should sign up early. First come, first served!
