Graduate Certificate in National Board-Certified Teacher

Prepare for National Board Certification with Collegial Guidance and Support

This 15-credit graduate-level certificate supports state-licensed or -certified teachers with more than three years of teaching experience for the rigorous process of attaining National Board Certification, the most respected professional certification available in K-12 education, currently held by just 3% of educators nationally. Research has shown that National Board-Certified Teachers (NBCTs) have significant impact on student learning and achievement, and that NBCTs are effective mentors within their learning communities.

Rise to the Top of Your Field with National Board Certification

National Board Certification (NBC), earned from the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS), is an advanced teaching credential that goes beyond state licensure. NBC is earned through a performance-based, peer-reviewed series of assessment components including an e-portfolio submission.

WilmU has partnered with NBPTS and the NAF (National Academy Foundation) to offer this certificate program to provide support and preparation guidance to educators seeking to attain NBC. One of the few NBCT programs in the country, WilmU’s is the only such program with NAF affiliation. The online format provides flexibility for busy educators.

Learn Directly From NBC Teachers

WilmU’s innovative NBCT Certificate program is instructed entirely by NBCTs, each with close knowledge of the certification process. Under their guidance, you will study advanced teaching pedagogies and learning strategies grounded in effective and reflective practices; demonstrate standards-based evidence of the positive effect of your instruction on student learning; learn and apply new formative assessment strategies; hone leadership skills; and prepare a portfolio for submission to the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards.

Increase Your Leadership and Salary Potential

NBCTs report that through the National Board Certification process they acquired the leadership skills to mentor and lead others. Through completing WilmU’s Graduate Certificate in National Board-Certified Teacher, you can extend your expertise to improve teaching and learning in schools beyond your own classroom. Many districts may provide salary enhancements for achieving National Board Certification as well as for the completion of 15 graduate-level education credits.

Note: The Certificate in National Board-Certified Teacher program may also be completed as a concentration of the M.Ed. in Instruction: National Board-Certified Teacher.
