In celebration of Veterans Day, the Wilmington University Library is pleased to welcome local author, Nancy E. Lynch, to the University’s New Castle campus. Lynch will be discussing her critically acclaimed book, Vietnam Mailbag: Voices from the War. This Library event, which is free and open to the public, will be held on Monday, November 9 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in room 309 of the Doberstein Admissions Center.

Nancy Lynch, a Delaware native, was a young reporter for the Wilmington Morning News when hundreds of thousands of Americans were shipped off to serve in Vietnam, an “undeclared and highly controversial war.” As the troops fought Lynch encouraged them to write to her, setting up a makeshift Vietnam mailbag. She wasn’t expecting much, but within weeks her mailbag was filled with real stories of the war of heartache, pain, joy, camaraderie and more. Lynch wrote one column a week in the Wilmington Morning News, sharing these stories from our troops with the world. But it seemed the more she wrote the more letters kept piling into the mailbag.

40 years later Nancy Lynch still has those letters and pictures sent to her by the men and women who sacrificed so much for this country. In her new book Vietnam Mailbag: Voices from the War, Lynch shares these stories and gives a new generation an insight into the real stories of war. The 460-page, full-color book features real photographs and letters from the troops.

This Library Event with Nancy Lynch will feature a discussion of her book, a question and answer session and more. For more information visit www.vietnammailbag.com. To register, please contact the Wilmington University Library at (302) 356 6879.
