University Relations Department at Wilmington University Wins 2009 Davey Award

Staff from the University Relations Department at Wilmington University were thrilled to learn that they had won a Silver Award in the 2009 Davey Awards. The winners of The 2009 Davey Awards were announced on Friday October 30, by the International Academy of the Visual Arts. Wilmington University was awarded the Silver Award for its television commercial campaign entitled, “Start Here.”

The television commercial, filmed throughout Delaware in June 2009, features Wilmington University students and alumni speaking about possibilities, opportunities and success. The project was conceptualized and produced in-house by Wilmington University’s University Relations department.

With over 4,000 entries from across the US and around the world, the Davey Awards honor the creative excellence of smaller agencies and companies worldwide for print, commercials, video, websites, online marketing and more.

The Davey is sanctioned and judged by the International Academy of the Visual Arts, an invitation-only body consisting of top-tier professionals from a “Who’s Who” of acclaimed media, advertising, and marketing firms. IAVA members include executives from organizations such as Alloy, Coach, Estee Lauder, Fry Hammond Barr, HBO, iNDELIBLE, Wunderman, MTV, Polo Ralph Lauren, Refinery, Sotheby’s Institute of Art, Wired, Yahoo! and many more.

“It was a very exciting moment when we learned about the award,” said Jacque Varsalona, Director of University Relations at Wilmington University, “The staff worked very hard to turn the commercial’s concept into a reality. We all came together and it was a tremendous group effort. I am very proud of this team.”
