An estimated 150,000 people from across the tri-state area flocked to Rehoboth Beach this past weekend, October 24 and 25 to attend the 20th Annual Sea Witch Halloween and Fiddlers Festival. Wilmington University’s Rehoboth Beach was one of several businesses that participated in the festival, which included a Sea Witch decorating contest for businesses, a costume parade, a pet parade, broom tossing competition and much more.
This year, for the third year in a row, Wilmington University’s Rehoboth site was a winner of the Sea Witch decorating competition. The competition invites businesses from around the area to transform their locations into spooky Halloween attractions. Wilmington University was commended for their ghoulish decorating and their continued commitment to creating a festive atmosphere at the Festival each year.
Additionally, the University’s Wildcat cheerleaders participated in the costume parade, which was held on Saturday afternoon. The cheerleaders wowed the crowd with their highflying antics and enthusiastic spirit. “What a treat it was to see your cheerleaders in the Sea Witch Parade in Rehoboth Beach this weekend,” said onlooker Carolyn Williams, “They are awesome. ...They are wonderful representatives for your university.”
The next day Wilmington University staff members were proud to show off their four legged friends in the annual Sea Witch pet costume parade. This year, the University chose the theme ‘graduates’ and dressed up their pets in colorful caps and gowns. These collegiate canines must have warmed the judges’ hearts because the University was named one of several pet costume parade judge’s favorites.
All in all the Sea Witch Festival was a great time for the entire family. Trick or treaters gathered from near and far to take a peak at the University’s Rehoboth Beach site and receive some candy and treats from the University staff. Wilmington University looks forward to participating in the Sea Witch Festival again next year.
