Wilmington University Alum Presents Original 2-Act Play at Delaware Center for the Contemporary Arts

"Second Chances: An American Tale," a hard-hitting play by G. Lloyd Morris, deals with young black men, street life and choices.

G. Lloyd Morris, adjunct instructor and graduate of Wilmington University, is the author and co-director of “Second Chances: An American Tale," an original play that deals realistically with street life. The play will be produced Thursday, November 13 through Sunday, November 16, at the Delaware Center for the Contemporary Arts (DCCA), 200 S. Madison Street in Wilmington.

The curtain goes up on the Thursday and Friday evening performances at 6:30 p.m. The Sunday performance is a matinee at 2:00 p.m.

Tickets can be purchased in advance for $20 at www.themorrisproject.com. Tickets will also be available at the door for $30 on each performance day.

The two act play deals with a young convict who returns to his old neighborhood to find a young girl in need of his intellectual gift. The story is set in “The Belly,” otherwise known as Wilmington's Riverside Projects, and explores the lives and street experiences of black men through themes of recidivism, re-entry and community support after their release from prison. This play deals with adult themes and contains strong language that is not suitable for children.

“Greg has an amazing drive and sense of purpose pointed directly at helping young black men make better choices," said Kate Cottle, assistant professor and chair of humanities and literature at Wilmington University, who also mentored Morris as a graduate student. "Greg was part of the gang culture in Los Angeles in his younger days and he knows the worst of the streets first hand.  This play is a dramatization of what can happen when someone like Greg puts everything he has into getting out of the wrong places by finding the right path.”

Seating is limited; tickets are available now.
