Learn Computers While at the Beach

Wilmington University’s Rehoboth Site Offers Non-Credit Computer Courses

This spring stop into Wilmington University’s Rehoboth site and enhance your computer skills. Whether you are a beginner, or want to become familiar with a new program or operating system, Wilmington University has something for you. Students can take advantage of Wilmington University’s ideal location, just steps from the beach, during Rehoboth Beach’s quiet, off-season.

The following is a list of available non-credit courses:

Introduction to Computers

This class is for beginners. Students are introduced to the computer, its various parts, computer terminology, and use of a mouse and keyboard. At course completion, students will be more familiar with the computer and more

knowledgeable of how to use it. $75

Classes Run: March 10 – March 31, Saturdays 9:00-11:00 a.m.

Windows 7 Operating System

In this class students will learn disk and file management, how to customize their desktop, how to install, delete and run programs and how to keep their system running at its peak. Introduction to computers is recommended. $75

Classes Run: April 14 – May 5, Saturdays 9:00-11:00 a.m.

Introduction to Microsoft Office 2010

Microsoft Office 2010 is a suite of application programs, which includes Word (word processing), Excel (spreadsheets), PowerPoint (presentations) and Publisher (desktop publishing). Students will complete one project a day in each of the above listed programs. This class offers students a chance to see what programs are available. Introduction to Computers and Windows 7 Operating System recommended. $75

File Management

Ever lose a document you saved on your computer? This class is designed to help students gain a better understanding of how the file management system works on their computer. Students will learn about the hierarchical file system as well as how to organize and keep track of files. Introduction to Computers and Windows 7 Operating System recommended. $75

Classes Run: March 5 – March 8, MTWR 1:00-3:00 p.m.

Introduction to PowerPoint

In this class, students will learn the basics of creating, editing and printing presentations using PowerPoint. Basic knowledge of Windows and keyboarding are necessary. $75

Classes Run: March 5 – March 8, MTWR 8:00-10:00 a.m.

Desktop Publishing

This class will teach students how to use Microsoft Publisher 2007. This is a beginner’s course and is project based. Students will learn how to make a flyer, a newsletter and a brochure. DTP software provides additional tools that are unavailable in word processing software. $75

Classes Run: April 2 – April 5, MTWR 8:00-10:00 a.m.

Quicken Deluxe 2010

This course will teach students how to use Quicken Deluxe 2010, a program used for managing personal finances (banking, investing, household expenses, taxes, planning, etc.). $85

Classes Run: March 26 – March 29, MTWR 8:00-10:00 a.m.

QuickBooks Pro 2010

This course is designed for the small to mid-sized business. Students will learn how to reconcile checking accounts, create and print invoices, receipts and statements, track payables, inventory and receivables and generate reports. Basic knowledge of computers is required. $85

Classes Run: March 12 – March 15, MTWR 8:00-10:00 a.m.

Intermediate QuickBooks Pro 2010

This course will expand on the knowledge gained in QuickBooks Pro and will cover payroll and reports. QuickBooks Pro is required. $85

Classes Run: March 19 – March 22, MTWR 8:00-10:00 a.m.

Google Documents

This class is an introduction to Google’s free online file management, word processing and spreadsheet software. $75

Classes Run: March 19 – March 22, MTWR 1:00-3:00 p.m.

Introduction to MAC

Are you new to Macs? Students in this class will learn to find their way around the anatomy of a Mac, locate their files and programs and how to customize their new Mac to best suit their needs. This class uses the Apple Macintosh OS X Lion operating system. $85

Classes Run: April 14 – April 28, Saturday 1:00-4:00 p.m.

Macs iLife

Apple’s iLife suite includes the applications iPhoto, GarageBand, iDVD, iWeb and iMovie, and now comes free on all new Macs. Discover what the excitement is all about and explore these applications. This class uses the Apple Macintosh OS X Lion operating system. Introduction to Mac course, or a working knowledge of Mac OS X, is required. $85

Classes Run: March 6 – March 27, Tuesdays 6:00-8:00 p.m.; May 5 – May 19, Saturdays 1:00-4:00 p.m.

Selling on eBay

This course is designed to teach the basics of selling on eBay. Students will learn to set up an account with both eBay and PayPal. Students should bring a small item they wish to sell, along with a detailed description of the item. They will also need to bring their checkbook and credit card, and know their email address and password. If students do not have a password, the instructor will set one up for you. Students will take pictures of their item in class and then follow the listing for three days. They will learn the process of sending an invoice, collecting payment and shipping the item to the highest bidder. Introduction to Computers is recommended. $75

Classes Run: March 10 – March 31, Saturdays 1:00-3:00 p.m.
