Wilmington University Alumnus Named Delaware Teacher of The Year

Congratulations to Mr. Mark Teesdale

Monday, November 03, 2008 - Dover, DE

Wilmington University would like to congratulate Mark D.Teesdale, a General Music and Chorus teacher at Lake Forest Central Elementary School in Felton, who was recently named the 2009 Delaware Teacher of the Year. Teesdale is a graduate of the Master of Education in Applied Educational Technology program at Wilmington University.


The Delaware Teacher of the Year was announced on October 21, 2008 at the Dover Downs Hotel and Conference Center in Dover. Governor Ruth Ann Minner pronounced Teesdale the teacher of the year in front of 450 invited guests and commended him for all his achievements.


Each year the Delaware Teacher of the Year is chosen by the Delaware Department of Education. This Delaware teacher must exemplify fine teaching in the state as well as make a positive contribution to teachers nationwide.
Eight other Delaware Teacher of the Year finalists also hold advanced degrees from Wilmington University.

  • Kathleen Gilbert (Master’s in Elementary Education)
  • Shay-Lynn McPhail (Doctorate in Educational Leadership)


The Division of Education along with the Alumni Relations department would like to congratulate Mr. Mark Teesdale and all the Delaware Teacher of the Year finalists for  their hard work and commitment to education in the state of Delaware.
