Monday, October 27, 2008 - Rehoboth Beach, DE
Wilmington University – Rehoboth Beach was one of several businesses that participated in the 19th Annual Sea Witch Festival in Rehoboth this past weekend. The three-day festival that began on October 24, involved a costume parade, broom-tossing contest, peanut on the nose race, kid’s magic shows, a sea witch-hunt and much more.
Wilmington University tied first place with Crosswinds Motel and Imagine in the Sea Witch-Decorating contest. The University’s Rehoboth Beach staff was congratulated for turning the site located on Rehoboth Avenue into a haunted attraction complete with ghosts, ghouls and skeletons. A hissing snake jumped out at visitors as they walked through the doors.
Wilmington University cheerleaders, the wildcat mascot, and University staff participated in the Sea Witch costume parade on Saturday morning. Walkers lined up at the Rehoboth Beach Convention Center and marched down Rehoboth Avenue. The parade was full of scary costumes as well as creative and colorful costumes. Father and daughter team Jeff and Rebecca Lusk of Lewes Delaware won first place in the costume parade dressed up as Alice in Wonderland and the Mad Hatter.
But people weren’t the only ones dressing up this year; the pets had a chance to dress up too. Wilmington University staff and their pets participated in the Big Dogs Pet Costume Parade on Saturday. The pets showed off their very own Wilmington University doggie T-shirts that were specially made for the parade.
Over 1500 people enjoyed the three-day festivities at the Sea Witch Festival this year. Trick or treaters outside the Wilmington University—Rehoboth Beach site were excited to receive Wilmington University slinkys and big green balloons. Wilmington University looks forward to participating in the Sea Witch Festival again next year.
