How do I borrow library books and other materials from the Library?

You may borrow library books by using your University ID card which contains your library barcode number on the back of the card. To obtain a University ID card, please contact the Wilmington University Information Center (UIC) at (877) 967-5464 or the Wilmington University administrative offices at your site.

How long may I keep materials? Is there a late fee if I keep them longer?

Most books, audio tapes, audio CDs, and leisure reading books may be checked out for three weeks. The fine for these is 10 cents per day, per item overdue. Children's Literature and video tapes may be checked out for one week. The fine for these materials is one dollar per day, per item overdue. Reference material, special collection materials, and periodicals do not circulate. Reserve materials circulate for shorter time periods. Fines are $1.00 per day, per item overdue.

How do I renew my materials?

Materials can be renewed online, over the phone or in person.

Renew online by using Delaware Library Catalog, the Library's online catalog. Log into the Delaware Library Catalog using your User ID and PIN. Once logged in, click on My Account and then Renew My Materials.

What if an item I need is already checked out?

A hold may be placed on an item using Delaware Library Catalog, the Library’s online catalog. Once a hold for an item is placed, the next available copy will be sent the designated pick-up library.

What if the Wilmington University Library does not have an item I need?

If a book is not available from the Wilmington University Library, you can check if another library within the Delaware Library System owns the book. When preforming your search in the Delaware Library Catalog, choose All from the library drop down list on the main search screen. This will allow you to see the holdings of all the libraries within the system. If the material is available, simply click on the Hold button and fill out the form.

If the material is not available through the Delaware Library System you may make an Interlibrary Loan request. In most instances, the items requested will be sent to our library within seven to ten days, provided we are given full and correct information. To find out more about this service click here.

Which libraries participate with Wilmington University in reciprocal borrowing and how do I obtain borrowing privileges at these regional libraries?

The Wilmington University Library participates in the consortium known as TCLC (Tri-State College Library Consortium). In order to obtain borrowing privileges at one of these libraries you must first complete and send the "Request for TCLC Letter" to the Wilmington University Librarian for Public Services.

If I am not a Wilmington University student, faculty or staff member, how can I get a Wilmington University borrowing card?

Wilmington University Alumni are able to apply for a Wilmington University Library Borrower's Card at no charge. Please complete the application for borrowing card and mail to the Wilmington University Librarian for Public Services.
