Advance Your Career With the 33-Credit Master of Health Science

WilmU’s 100% online health sciences master’s degree program prepares graduates for the work of improving health outcomes across the continuum of care by using evidence-based practice and data-driven decision making. The interdisciplinary health education program exposes students to different viewpoints and problem-solving strategies, placing strong emphasis on health care policy and environmental influences, population-based health interventions, and a cross-cultural approach toward all individuals in the prevention of illness and promotion and management of health.

A Health Sciences Program That Aligns With Your Career Goals

This master of health sciences program provides a broad perspective of health care and associated competencies for advanced roles within an interdisciplinary environment. The core curriculum provides foundational knowledge in aspects of health care delivery and project management as well as applied behavioral health, epidemiology and data analysis, health education and global leadership. All students will participate in an experiential learning capstone with individualized experiences aligned with their career goals.

Three exciting concentrations provide targeted training. Each incorporates coursework from multiple programs of study within Wilmington University, including Environmental Science, Health Care Administration, Higher Education Leadership and Nursing Leadership. Choose from:

  • Population Health: Learn to use data-driven decision making to improve health care for population segments with shared health conditions, demographics and social determinants of health.
  • Higher Education: Explore trends in community health, health disparities, health promotion strategies and key health education principles while gaining the skills to teach within health care organizations and community colleges.
  • Environmental Health: Learn how environmental hazards affect human health at the individual, population and systems levels by identifying illness- and injury-causing agents and assessing compliance with environmental and professional standards.

Attain Mastery of In-Demand Skill Sets Through Industry Certification Options

The M.S. in Health Sciences program provides courses required to meet the National Commission for Health Education Credentialing (NCHEC) standards. Upon graduation, students will be eligible to pursue certification as a Certified Health Education Specialist or Master Certified Health Education Specialist (if they have five years of applicable work experience) via a competency-based exam. This designation demonstrates to employers a mastery of skill sets desired in multiple employment arenas: nonprofit, government and for-profit acute or community-based healthcare organizations. Graduates will be equipped to deliver education both formally and informally to individuals and populations from a higher education, environmental health and/or population health perspective.
