Philadelphia University has secured the top seed for the upcoming Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Women's Soccer Tournament, which will be hosted by Wilmington University this week. The Lady Rams and Georgian Court University shared the regular-season championship with 10-2 conference records, but Philadelphia upended the Lions, 1-0, in double overtime on Oct. 13 to earn the top seed.
Chestnut Hill College will serve as the No. 3 seed, winning a 3-way tie-breaker against Holy Family University and Wilmington University. All three squads went 8-3-1 in conference play. Holy Family is the No. 4 seed and Wilmington is fifth. The top four seeds will all host quarter-final games on Tuesday, Nov. 3, at 2:00 pm.
Philadelphia, which is 12-4-3 overall this season, will face Felician College on Tuesday. The Lady Rams feature two freshman first team All-Conference picks in goalie Kelli Kowalewski and forward Trisha Sileo. Sileo was also named the CACC Rookie of the Year. Senior defenders Cari Schenkel and Alyssa Kline were second team selections. Philadelphia advanced to last season's CACC Championship match before falling to Georgian Court, 1-0. Felician enters the tournament 6-8-2 overall and 4-5-2 in conference play. Philadelphia won the regular-season match-up against Felician, 3-1, on Sept. 12.
Georgian Court, the defending CACC Champion, will host Caldwell in the quarter-finals. Sophomore forward Kelly Lyons and freshman defender Denisha Thomas were first team All-CACC picks for the Lions this season, while sophomore midfielder Nikki D'Orsaneo was a second team honoree for the Cougars. GCU enters the tournament with a 13-7 overall record, while Caldwell is 6-10-1 overall and 6-5-1 in CACC contests. GCU won the regular-season match by a score of 2-0 on Oct. 19.
Chestnut Hill grabbed the No. 3 seed in its first trip to the CACC Tournament. The Griffins went 8-3-1 in conference play a year after going 2-9. CHC will be led by 2009 CACC Player of the Year, Lauren Riiff and Coach of the Year, Seamus O'Connor. Riiff enters the tournament with 24 points on 11 goals and two assists. The Griffins will play #6 Dominican on Tuesday. The Chargers will be led by first team pick, junior midfielder Margaret Porter, who is second in the CACC in points (33) and goals (16). Dominican went 7-2-3 in conference play and 8-5-4 overall. Chestnut Hill bested Dominican on Oct. 3 by a 3-1 final.
Holy Family will host Wilmington in the 4/5 game on Tuesday. Both squads finished with 8-3-1 conference records. The Tigers are 10-8-1 overall and the Wildcats are 9-6-1. Holy Family won the regular-season match, 3-2, on Sept. 23. Both teams have a pair of first team All-Conference players. For Holy Family, senior defender Meghan McCusker and sophomore midfielder Lindsay Fisher earned the distinction. For Wilmington, junior midfielder Amanda Davis and freshman defender Alli Williams were first team selections.
