Volleyball Splits a Pair of Matches at Caldwell Tri-Match

The Wildcats of Wilmington University split a pair of matches at Caldwell College, in tri-match action on Saturday afternoon at the Newman Center. Wilmington fell to Caldwell in a CACC contest 3-0 (16-25, 15-25, 20-25) to open the action, then defeated Southern Connecticut State University 3-2 (19-25, 25-23, 25-17, 12-25, 15-13 )in a non-conference match later in the day.

Against Caldwell, the Wildcats were paced by junior Meghan Frick, who had 13 kills and seven digs. Classmate Michelle Boyd added five kills and 12 digs, while sophomore libero Kim Shropshire had 10 digs. Setter Shannon Rumple had 20 assists and seven digs.

In the win over Southern Connecticut State, Wilmington was led by Boyd’s 11 kills and 14 digs. Sophomore Paige Norvell added 10 kills and 11 digs, while senior middle hitter Brittani Leathern had eight kills and seven blocks. Shropshire had a match-high 26 digs, while Rumple had 37 assists.

Following the matches, Wilmington’s record is 9-9 in the CACC and 14-15 overall. The Wildcats return to the court on Saturday afternoon, when they close out their regular season by hosting the Deacons of Bloomfield College in a CACC contest beginning at 12:00 PM.
