Bloomfield College and Holy Family University have been selected to win their respective divisions as the 2009 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) basketball preseason poll was released today. Bloomfield garnered seven first place votes to top the North Division poll, while Holy Family was voted first in the South after picking up five first place nods. The 14 head coaches conducted the voting.
Dominican College earned six first place votes and finished second in the North with 82 points. The Chargers were followed by Caldwell University (73 points), Nyack College (65), Felician College (40), Post University (24), and conference newcomer Concordia College (22).
In the South, Wilmington University finished second with 84 points and five first-place nods while Philadelphia University was third with four first-place votes and 78 points. The division is rounded out by the Georgian Court University (51), USP (45), Goldey-Beacom College (29) and Chestnut Hill College (18).
The Wildcats return eight student-athletes from their 2009 team, which finished 11-7 in the CACC and had an overall mark of 18-12. Last year Wilmington was lead by the duo of Amelia Simmons and Kim Parker. Simmons, a senior forward, was awarded First-Team All-CACC and Second-Team Daktronics All-East Region last season. She led the conference in scoring (19.0 points per game), was sixth in rebounding (8.6/game), fifth in field goal percentage (.473), and tenth in blocks (1.07/game). Parker, a senior guard, earned Second Team All-Conference honors, after leading the team in assists (90) and three point percentage (.400). She was second on the team in scoring (15.3 ppg), steals (43), and field goal percentage (.440).
The Wildcats open up the 2009-2010 season on Sunday, November 15th, when they play host to the Golden Bears of Kutztown University.
