Wilmington University is pleased to announce that Sargbah Tarpeh (Overbrook HS/Philadelphia, PA), Fatoma Turay (Bartram HS/Philadelphia, PA), Nickalus McDonald (Martin Luther King HS/Philadelphia, PA), Jamal Wiggins (St. Anthony’s HS/St. Thomas Central, Trinidad), Dave Dease (Delsea HS/Newfield, NJ), and Duhan Malali (Absegami HS/Galloway, NJ) were awarded Men’s Soccer All-Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) honors for their performances this past season.
Tarpeh was named CACC Player of the Year and also earned first team honors, while Turay, McDonald, Wiggins, and Dease each garnered first team accolades. Malali was named to the second team.
Tarpeh, a senior forward was the catalyst of the Wildcat offense. Tarpeh led the Wildcats in almost every offensive category, including goals (21), assists (11), and game winning goals (7). He also led the CACC in points, goals, assists, shots, points per game and assists per game. His offensive contributions ranked 1st in Division II in goals and assists, and 4th in the nation in points per game. His 53 points so far this season, are a single-season CACC record. This marks the fourth consecutive year that Tarpeh has been named First-Team All-Conference.
Turay, a senior midfielder, finished second on the squad in assists (8). He was third on the team in points (14), and ranked second in the conference in assists. McDonald, a sophomore midfielder, netted 10 goals and six assists this season. He is third in the CACC in points and assists, and is tied for fourth in goals.
Dease, a senior defender, and Wiggins, a junior back, were the anchor of the Wildcat defense. Their play led a defense that finished second in the CACC in goals against average (0.94) and in goals allowed (18; 0.95/game). They helped the ‘Cats to seven shutouts this season.
Malali, a junior goalkeeper, sports a 12-0 record with a goals against average of 0.86. He has recorded five shutouts, and is second in the CACC in goals against average. He ranks third in save percentage (.875). Malali is 19th in Division II in save percentage and 28th in GAA.
Head coach Nick Papanicolas was also named the CACC Coach of the Year.
Together, these six have led the Wildcats to a record of 10-0 in the CACC, and an overall mark of 17-2. The Wildcats were regionally ranked all season long, and held a program-high national ranking of 9th at one point during the season. Currently, the ‘Cats are ranked 12th in Division II, have clinched the CACC Regular Season Championship, and are the top seed in the upcoming CACC Tournament hosted by Wilmington.
