The Lady Wildcats of Wilmington University rallied from two goals down in the first half, to defeat the visiting Golden Falcons of Felician College, 5-3 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) women’s soccer action on Saturday afternoon at the Kirkwood Soccer Complex.

Felician struck first, just five minutes in, as Brittney Brodniak scored on a shot that bounced over the head of Wildcat keeper Brooke Eveler. The Golden Falcons made it 2-0 during the 29th minute when Jenn Ghiroli connected on a feed from Derienne Jacobowitz. Wilmington got things together, and less than two minutes later finally got on the board when junior Amanda Davis scored off an assist from freshman Anna Perrino. The ‘Cats knotted the game at two with just over six minutes remaining in the first half as sophomore Klaudia Furman connected off a pass from junior Danielle Niccoli.

The Golden Falcons struck first again in the second half as Anna Peterson capitalized on a free kick opportunity during the 59th minute. Wilmington tied the game at three just four minute later as sophomore Kory Webster answered right back with a free kick goal of her own. Sophomore Taryn Sanchez gave the Wildcats a 4-3 lead during the 66th minute when she headed home a corner kick from Davis. Junior Sam Simpson gave the ‘Cats an insurance goal at the 73:01 mark, when she netted an unassisted tally to give the hosts the 5-3 lead that would hold until the final buzzer sounded.

Wilmington’s Brooke Eveler (4-2-1) recoded nine saves in goal, while Felician’s Allie Couzo had eight saves. The Wildcats out-shot the Golden Falcons by a 15-13 margin, and the corner kicks were tied at four apiece.

With the win, Wilmington improved to 8-2-1 in the CACC and 9-5-1 overall, while Felician dropped to 4-5-2 in the conference and 5-8-2 on the season. The Wildcats return to the pitch on Tuesday afternoon, when they travel to take on the Lions of Georgian Court University in a CACC contest beginning at 3:30 PM.
