The Wildcats of Wilmington University defeated the host Clippers of Concordia College, 3-1 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) volleyball action on Saturday afternoon. Wilmington took the first set 25-10, but Concordia rallied to take set two, 25-22. The Wildcats then took the third set by a 25-10 margin, and sealed the win with a 25-16 victory in the fourth and final set.
Wilmington was led by junior Michelle Boyd’s 11 kills. Classmate Meghan Frick added 10 kills and 24 digs, while senior middle hitter Brittani Leathern chipped in with eight kills and 10 blocks. Junior libero Brittany O’Neill continued her outstanding defense and notched a match-high 26 digs. Sophomore setter Shannon Rumple had 30 assists, eight digs, and four blocks in a solid all-around effort.
Concordia was paced by Courtney Hanson’s 12 kills. Olivia Thompson added seven kills and 12 digs, while Amanda Margedant added 16 digs and 21 assists. Amanda Byrd recorded a team-high 25 digs for the Clippers.
With the win, Wilmington improved to 8-7 in the CACC and 12-13 overall, while Concordia dropped to 0-14 in the conference and 0-21 on the season. The Wildcats return to the court on Tuesday evening, when they play host to the league-leading Lions of Georgian Court University in a CACC contest beginning at 7:00 PM.
