Volleyball Blanks Rival Lightning, 3-0

The Wildcats of Wilmington University swept the visiting Lightning of Goldey-Beacom College, 3-0 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) volleyball action on Thursday evening at the Pratt Gymnasium. Wilmington took the first set by a 25-19 score, won set two 25-12, and completed the sweep with a 25-9 victory in the third and final set.

Junior Michelle Boyd paced the Wildcat attack, as she recorded a match-high 11 kills and seven digs. Classmate Meghan Frick added seven kills and 22 digs, while libero Brittany O’Neill posted 21 digs. Senior Brittani Leathern had eight kills and four blocks, while sophomore Shannon Rumple chipped in with 33 assists and 10 digs.

Goldey-Beacom was led by Ron Shaner’s six kills and 11 digs. Monica Dempsey added four kills and 21 digs, while libero Christine Hudock had a match-high 25 digs.

With the win, Wilmington improved to 7-7 in the CACC and 11-13 overall, while Goldey-Beacom dropped to 3-13 in the conference and 8-18 on the season. The Wildcats return to the court on Saturday afternoon, when they travel to take on the Clippers of Concordia College in a CACC contest beginning at 1:00 PM.
