Wildcats Edge Holy Family, 3-2 in Thriller

The Wildcats of Wilmington University outlasted the visiting Tigers of Holy Family University in a thrilling 3-2 victory in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) volleyball action on Tuesday evening at the Pratt Gymnasium.

Holy Family won a very close first set, 25-23, but the ‘Cats rebounded to take the second set by a 25-15 margin. The Tigers answered back with a 25-16 victory in the third set. Wilmington held on 25-21 to take the fourth set, and the ‘Cats closed out the win with a decisive 15-4 win in the fifth and deciding set.

Wilmington was led by sophomore Paige Norvell, who posted eight kills and 11 digs. Junior Meghan Frick added eight kills and 10 digs, while senior middle hitter Brittani Leathern added six kills and six blocks. Sophomore setter Shannon Rumple had 29 assists and 12 digs, while junior libero Brittany O’Neill posted 23 digs.

The Tigers were led by Jill Keeve’s 15 kills and 10 digs. Aly Keihl added 12 kills and nine digs, while Kaite Hornback recorded 11 kills and 11 digs. Setter Aimee Drabyn had 42 assists and 12 digs, while libero Jordan Beland notched a match-high 25 digs.

With the win, Wilmington improved to 6-7 in the CACC and 10-12 overall, while Holy Family dropped to 8-6 in the CACC and 11-18 on the season. The Wildcats return to the court on Thursday evening, when they play host to the cross-town rival Lightning of Goldey-Beacom College in a CACC contest beginning at 7:00 PM.
