The 14th ranked Wildcats of Wilmington University ran their unbeaten streak to 11 games, as they blanked the host Eagles of Lock Haven University, 2-0 in non-conference men’s soccer action on Tuesday afternoon at Hubert Jack Stadium.
Both goals for Wilmington came in the opening half, and the first came off the foot of sophomore Nickalus McDonald. McDonald took a long through ball from senior Sargbah Tarpeh, and beat the keeper to the far post to give the ‘Cats a 1-0 lead at the 28 minute mark. Sophomore Ryan Doyle gave the Wildcats a little breathing room just before the first half ended, as he connected on a cross from junior Joe Stant. The 2-0 lead would hold until the final buzzer sounded.
Wilmington’s Duhan Malali (10-0) recorded six saves in the shutout victory, while the duo of Chad Badorf and Chris Custer split time in goal for Lock Haven. Badorf gave up both goals and had no saves in the first half, and Custer notched one save in the second stanza. The Eagles outshout the Wildcats by a 15-7 margin and held a 7-3 advantage in corner kicks.
With the win, Wilmington improved to 15-2 overall, while Lock Haven dropped to 5-9-2 on the season. The Wildcats return to the pitch on Thursday afternoon for a much anticipated CACC matchup with the 18th ranked Chargers of Dominican College. Game time is slated for 3:00 PM at the Kirkwood Complex.
