NEW CASTLE, DE -- The Wildcats of Wilmington University used a balanced scoring attack, as 10 different players scored in a 10-1 rout of the visiting Firebirds of the University of the District of Columbia in non-conference men’s soccer action on Sunday afternoon.

Wilmington wasted little time in getting on the board, as junior forward Sargbah Tarpeh connected on a through ball from classmate Fatoma Turay at the 8:51 mark. During the 66th minute, junior midfielder Jose Coronado converted a penalty kick opportunity to make the score 6-0 in favor of the Wildcats.

It didn't take long for the Marauders to show how deserving they were of their No. 21 ranking in the second half, as sophomore Shane Seabrook tied the game at one just over two minutes in.

WILDCATS FALL TO WEST CHESTER, 3-2 IN OT

(Courtesy of West Chester Sports Information)

WEST CHESTER, PA -- Jason Mackel banged in a rebound off a direct kick with 49 seconds left in the first overtime to lift West Chester to a 3-2 win on a very windy, but sunny, Tuesday afternoon in a non-league men’s soccer match.

Wilmington (10-5-1) was whistled for a foul just outside the penalty area in the final minute of the first overtime when Zach Weaver’s direct kick hit the wall set up 10 yards away and the ball deflected to the left right onto Mackel’s foot. His drive beat Wilmington goalkeeper Ethan Kavanaugh’s diving attempt to the far corner for the game-winner.

Mackel also picked up an assist on West Chester’s first goal of the game in the 65th minute. His through pass sent Matt Aunet in on the keeper all alone and a nifty side-step of Kavanaugh left the goal wide open for Aunet.

One minute later, Weaver saved the day for West Chester (8-6-3) when he made a diving kick save of a shot off the foot of Wilmington’s Nickalus McDonald that was ear-marked for the near lower right-hand corner. McDonald juked one Golden Rams defender at the 18-yard line and then dodged WCU’s charging goalkeeper Peter Weiss. Thinking he had the entire net to himself, McDonald tapped the ball towards the goal mouth. However, Weaver came sliding across the goal line and kicked the ball out of bounds to preserve the 1-0 advantage.

Nick Basalyga doubled West Chester’s lead in the 70th minute when he broke in on Kavanaugh and won a 50-50 ball by ricocheting a shot off the keeper. The ball slowly rolled toward the goal line as Kavanaugh desperately scrambled to his feet to chase it down. Kavanaugh slapped the ball away a second late as it had barely crossed over the goal line.

The last 20 minutes of regulation belonged to Wilmington as the Wildcats mounted their two-goal comeback. Sargbah Tarpeh and Socrates Joachim each tallied 12 minutes apart to knot things up and send the tilt into extra time.

Weiss made two saves in the contest to improve to 2-0-2 on the season. Kavanaugh was credited with six saves in the loss. Tarpeh netted a goal and an assist for the Wildcats.

The Eagles’ Mike Samedo took the shot, but Wildcat keeper Ethan Kavanagh dove to his left and got a hand on the ball. The ball went up off the crossbar and was cleared out by Wilmington’s Joe Stant.

Post out-shot the Wildcats by a 15-11 margin, and also held a 8-3 advantage in corner kicks. Freshman goalkeeper Ethan Kavanagh recorded nine saves between the pipes, while Post’s Dan Nadel notched three saves in goal.

Following the game, Wilmington closed out the regular season with a 4-5-1 record in the CACC and 9-8-2 overall, while Post is currently 5-2-2 in the conference and 10-4-3 overall. The Wildcats return to the pitch on Tuesday afternoon in the first round of the CACC Playoffs. Wilmington, the number five seed, will travel to take on the fourth seeded Eagles of Post University. Game time is set for 2:00 PM.

WATERBURY, CT -- It was a game that had a bit of everything--a playoff atmosphere, two called-back goals, a missed penalty kick, 41 fouls, and a late game comeback. When all was said and done, Sophomore midfielder, Frantzy Noze, finished an opportunity set up by teammate Luis Figueiredo, and in doing so, finished Wilmington University's season, leading the Post University men's soccer team to a thrilling 2-1 come-from-behind victory Tuesday afternoon at Lamoy Field.

Noze's third goal in the last two games couldn't have come at a better time for the Eagles as it sent them into the CACC Semifinals against top seeded Caldwell College Thursday afternoon in Philadelphia. The victory raised Post's season record to 12-4-3, keeping them in the hunt for a bid to the NCAA Tournament as a reward for their consistent play over the second half of the season. The Eagles are unbeaten in their last seven contests (5-0-2). Wilmington, the #5 seed, ends their season at 12-6-2.

The first half was an up and down affair that saw Wildcats have an early goal waved off for an offsides call, followed by the Eagles' Eurica Trowers, the CACC's leading scorer, missing a penalty kick inches wide of the left post. In the 33rd minute, however, Wilmington's Sargbah Tarpeh, a junior forward, headed home a serve from sophomore midfielder Anthony Randazzo to give them a 1-0 lead at the half, despite being outshot 7-3.

The second half saw Post take control from the outset, both in terms of possession and opportunities created, but it was Wilmington that found that back of the net first in the 65th minute, only to once again have it waved off for another offsides call. The Eagles continued to press with little to show for their efforts, and it was beginning to look as though it was not going to be their day, until a 41 second explosion saw their one goal deficit turn into a one goal lead.

Mike Semedo, whose missed penalty kick with 41 seconds remaining in regulation in last week's meeting between the two teams left the Eagles to settle for a scoreless draw, gained redemption at the best possible moment, when he received a through ball from Dean Robinson after slipping behind the defense and calmly placed it into the net past Wildcat keeper Ethan Kavanagh to tie the game at 1-1.

Forty-one seconds later, Noze completed the comback with his 6th goal of the season, sending the Eagles on to a rematch with Cadwell, a team they tied 2-2 a week and a half ago, after blowing a two goal second half lead.

Senior keeper, Dan Nadel, registered four saves for the Eagles to earn the victory. Kavanagh recorded four saves for Wilmington. Post outshot Wilmington 16-10 on the afternoon overall and held a 6-1 advantage in corner kicks.
